Hi there! I’m Jen. My journey to writing this book began many years ago when I graduated from college. The first job I took offered me the opportunity to travel the world. At first it was really scary. I had barely ever been on a plane, so when I was sent to Japan by myself it was nerve wracking to say the least. Once I got there though the experience was well worth it! That was my first big international trip and the adventures continued from there. With each trip I experienced foods and cultures I had never known before. Around that same time I rediscovered my passion for baking and cake decorating. I used to bake a lot as a child, and I first learned to decorate cakes while working at a Baskin Robbins in high school making ice cream cakes.
During each international trip I would bring back new ingredients and ideas from the places I visited. With my creative juices flowing I found myself incorporating these ingredients into some truly unique cake recipes. The more recipes I created the more I knew I had to share them.
I was finally able to open my baking and cake decorating business, Around the World in 80 Cakes, in 2009. I continued to develop and test my internationally inspired recipes, and I was able to fine tune them with the feedback from my customers. Through all of that trial and error that I finally published my first ebook of recipes. I decided to call the series Cakes without Borders, because true to the “without borders” name I donate a portion of the proceeds from each sale to a children’s humanitarian organization.
