Well folks, I’ve done it. I’ve published my first eBook. I’ve had the idea to publish a book of recipes for a long time. In fact the name of my business, Around the World in 80 Cakes, really started out as an idea for a book. The only problem was I didn’t have 80 recipes yet. Many years and many recipe tests later, I’m getting VERY close to 80.
That’s why, about a year or so ago, I decided to write a book proposal and approach a literary agent. He was very nice and gave me some suggestions. I didn’t receive a “no” but more of an “it needs work”. That told me that I was on to something, but I also realized that publishing a book this day and age is very tricky. Even once you find an agent, you have to find a publisher and the process could take years. I’ve already had this idea for years and rather than put it off any longer I’ve decided to Carpe Diem (seize the day) and publish it on my own.
Update: Check out my new eBook cover!
Rather than publish all 80 recipes at once I’m going to do them in installments as I complete each chapter. To start off, I published my first book which is more like my “Methods” section. Most baking books, at least the good ones in my opinion, have a section at the beginning that goes in depth into the different baking methods used by the author. To me this section is critical to the success of your recipes. You want to give the reader as much information as possible about how you make the recipe so that it’s like you are standing in the kitchen with them walking through it step by step.
I wanted to take the idea of a Methods section a step further and really get into the nitty gritty about what each step of the cake making process is doing and why it is important. So, my first book is titled “How To Bake: The Basics of Butter Cakes”. I’m a Chemical Engineer by trade, so the science behind baking has always fascinated me. In “How To Bake” I share some of the baking science I’ve learned over my 20+ years of baking with you the reader…and to think it all started with that Easy Bake oven.
So if you are interested in learning about how to bake the perfect butter cake, check out my book! I’ll be running a free promotion on Amazon from August 23 – August 27.
Stay tuned for my next book which will be the first stop of the Around the World in 80 Cakes journey….Europe. That is where my ancestors are from so I thought it would be a wonderful place to start. I can’t wait to take you all on this wonderful culinary adventure!
