Vintage wedding cakes have been popular for some time, but this is probably the first one I’ve made in a while. Vintage wedding cakes can range in style from extremely ornate to simple and elegant like this one. The bride really liked the idea of cascading pearls all over the cake which I did in white royal icing. She also wanted to cake to have that antique ivory look which I achieved by mixing pure white fondant with ivory fondant and just a touch of black to give it that almost silver appearance. This also helped the white pearls to stand out even more.
A dusty rose satin ribbon was wrapped around each tier and beautiful vintage broaches supplied by the bride were placed on each level. The focal point of the cake was the hand-painted gold monogram in the center. The bride and groom didn’t want a topper so I made a decorative heart shape with the same royal icing pearls used to decorate the sides.
