This post is long overdue. I made this Mr Met cake around Thanksgiving for my cousin’s birthday. He is a long time Mets fan, and an excellent Baseball player, so I knew he’d love it!
To make it I used an 8 inch round, but you could really use any size round cake. The circumference of the cake is a little over 25 inches so I decided to make each of the side stripes two inches wide, figuring I would make the one in the very back of the cake a little bigger. After frosting the cake I cut out the side strips, about 2 inches wide by 4 inches tall each, and applied them in alternating columns.
I then topped it with an 8 inch circle of white fondant. I used a simple rope border around the top edge to join the top and sides. I then used a red edible marker to draw the stitching and used circle cutters to make the mouth, eyes, and eyebrows. The hat and nose where also molded out of fondant. I used Fondant letter cutters to cut out the Orange NY for the hat.
