These adorable paw print mini cakes were for a little boy’s 1st birthday party this weekend. The cakes were yellow cake with rich chocolate frosting covered in white fondant. To make them I baked up 9 x 13 sheet cakes and chilled them in the fridge overnight to make the cake easier to handle. I then used square cookie cutters to cut out each “tier” in a different size.
To frost them I placed each piece of cake on a cooling rack and set it over a bowl. I then poured the softened ganache over each to cover it. Once the ganache was set I cut out squares of fondant to cover each individual cake piece. I then stacked each tier on a small piece of cardboard that was cut to fit into the bottom of the bags. In hindsight, the next time I might try stacking the cakes first, then covering them in fondant all at once since covering each small piece was very time consuming. The black paw prints and bone were hand painted on using black food coloring. To finish them off they were wrapped in a paw print cello bag and tied off with paw print ribbon to match.
